  6. Is Surfshark safe?

Surfshark is safe due to its:

    • Location: The Surfshark company is based in the British Virgin Islands (BVI), meaning that other government agencies can’t force it to reveal customer data. That’s because the British Virgin Islands isn’t part of the international surveillance alliances Five Eyes, Nine Eyes, or Fourteen Eyes, unlike the U.S.
    • Privacy policy: Surfshark is one of the best no-log VPNs, meaning that the company does not log users’ web activity or IP addresses. Rather, they keep only users’ email addresses, encrypted passwords, billing information, order history, and diagnostics.
    • Encryption: What does Surfshark have in common with the U.S. government and military? They all use AES-256 encryption, the highest standard available, to protect sensitive information. This means that not even Surfshark can see what you’re doing online, let alone your internet service provider (ISP).
    • Multi-hop: Surfshark encrypts your web traffic and IP addresses multiple times, a process called either double VPN or multi-hop.
    • Kill switch: Even if Surfshark fails, it will shut down all of your web activity so that your ISP won’t be able to see what you’re doing online.

DID YOU KNOW: Multi-hop means that the VPN encrypts your web activity multiple times, making it more difficult to trace.
